I really found this book very informative because it provided both sides of the question, how did davy crockett die? davy died fighting to the end in front of the chapel, just like mrs dickenson, joe(travis slave), and enrique esparza(8yr old son of gregorio esparza, who died firing the cannon in the back of the chapel) said.

This book which has been out for awhile is really about the "same ole thang" theme on how Davy died. I beleieve de la Pena simply because when describing the death of Davy AFTER the battle, he is writing in the first tense.

A bit of a sensational populist tome and lightweight scholarly treatment, Dan Kilgore's book begins, with the very title, to telegraph it's intent: to deflate the myth of "Davy" Crockett. "Davy" being the name of the manufactured mythical creation of pulp writers who bears little resemblance to the historical David Crockett and this is the sphere where Kilgore operates.
